Hi there! I am the creator of the DiscoverDance Early Childhood Dance Program. I started teaching in 1998 in Louisville, KY. I immediately fell in love with teaching even though I truly had no idea how to effectively and safely teach the little ones. I was young and still learning myself. That all changed while receiving my BFA in dance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was encouraged by one of my professors to take “Creative Dance for Children” taught by dance educator, Kate Kuper. Kate taught a method of teaching that I had never experienced. I went on to study with and assist Kate for the remainder of my time at U of I. I quickly realized that teaching children would be my life’s work and Kate’s mentoring would inspire the creation of the DiscoverDance Early Childhood Program.

In 2005, I was teaching at a preschool with my now business partner, Renee Deets. I began incorporating creative dance into the preschool curriculum and decided to offer a summer camp for our preschoolers. The response was so great, Renee and I decided to expand to older dancers. The success from that summer lead to the creation of Elite Dance Academy in Homer Glen, Illinois in 2006. Our Early Childhood program started with 7 preschoolers ages 3 and 4. Over the next decade, the vision of DiscoverDance became a reality and currently has over 100 dancers ages 4 and under.

The DiscoverDance program uses a conceptual approach to teaching young children dance. By focusing on the essence of movement first, we instill the joy and art of dance. We create dancers who are ready to learn and develop in any dance style. It is the perfect blend of discovery and development that leads to a lifelong appreciation for the ART of dance.

Are you a studio owner? I believe that selling a program is much more successful than just selling dance classes. I look forward to sharing my tips and tools for a successful Early Childhood Program so that your studio can have a solid foundation that continues to feed into your older dance programs.

Are you a dance teacher? An early childhood dance teacher is an invaluable asset that every healthy studio must have. If you love working with children, you can learn and teach the DiscoverDance program and I will share with you how easy and affordable it can be.

I look forward to having you join me at the Midwest Dance Teacher’s Forum July 22nd and 23rd. I will be presenting my top tips on how to “P.R.E.P.” your early childhood program to create a healthy foundation for years of studio success. I will also be launching my online community and digital DiscoverDance curriculum at a steep discount for all attendees. In addition, I have partnered with Bear Paw Creek Movement Props and will have giveaways and discounts!

See you in July!
